BENEFITS OF DARK CHOCOLATE AND PORTION GUIDE

Sometimes we just need a chocolate hit! Did you know that your choice of chocolate can actually be beneficial to your health!

A key reason dark chocolate has health benefits is that it is rich in flavonoids, which are naturally occurring substances found in plants that can provide antioxidants. 
Antioxidants protect our cells from damage caused by free radicals, which are unstable oxygen molecules thought to be responsible for aging and some diseases.

So first of all this isn’t milk chocolate I am referring to it’s DARK chocolate. 
Dark chocolate contains 50-90% cocoa solids, cocoa butter, and sugar, whereas milk chocolate contains anywhere from 10-50% cocoa solids, cocoa butter, milk in some form, and sugar. 

Dark chocolate contains up to 2-3 times more flavanol (a plant chemical that may help protect your heart and reduce blood pressure) than milk chocolate.

  • Phosphorus
  • Flavanols

TIP: Make sure the dark Chocolate you choose has at least a 60 percent or higher cocoa content to ensure it is packed full of nutrients and antioxidants. 

What is the daily recommended amount of dark chocolate? The recommended portion of dark chocolate is approximately 30-60g. Indulge in anything more than that, and you may be consuming too many calories!
